In 2000, the Fire Brigades Union successfully brought, and won, employment tribunal claims on behalf of retained duty system (RDS) firefighters under the Part-Time Workers (Prevention of Less Favourable Treatment) Regulations 2000.
The employment tribunal ruled that RDS firefighters had been treated less favourably when compared to wholetime colleagues on the issues of terms and conditions and access to the Firefighters Pension Scheme.
The union has recently reached an agreement with the Home Office and the Fire and Rescue Service employers on the pensions aspect of the claims, which has only been possible following a recent ruling in another legal case. If you were an RDS firefighter employed between 1 July 2000 to 5 April 2006 then you may be entitled to a further claim.
