The Fire Brigades Union is the professional voice of Firefighters and control staff in the UK.

DEMOCRACY
All FBU officials are firefighters elected by the union’s membership. You choose who best represents your interests.
The union negotiates to achieve the best deal possible for the conditions of members, campaigning against key issues and sparking change. We recognise the importance of a democratic election process to ensure fair and accurate representation.
EQUALITY
Every member is invited to be involved in union activity. Collectively, we aim to challenge all forms of discrimination.
Alongside trades sections, we have three dedicated equalities sections: black and ethnic minority members(B&EMM), lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans members (LGBTQ+) and a women’s section. Each section has a national committee which discusses key issues relevant to those groups in the service.
SAFETY
The FBU has health and safety reps within every service, so you can be covered at all times.
Reps are dedicated to reporting accidents and near misses, strengthening systems to ensure a safer working environment. If a problem arises, your rep will be there to offer advice, support and representation. Additionally, our Accident and Injury Fund is available to provide financial support should you suffer an accident at work.

CAMPAIGNS

INFORMATION
The union strives to keep its members informed. Regular branch meetings are held, offering the opportunity to raise any concerns or ask questions. The union’s magazine, Firefighter, is sent to every member’s home regular per year, and our email bulletin shares regular and current updates.
