Hurricane Melissa hit Jamaica on 28 October, and has devastated much of the island before continuing to Cuba. Dozens have been reported dead so far.
In response to these events, the FBU's Black and Ethnic Minority Members section and FBU general secretary Steve Wright have released this statement:
We would like to send our solidarity to everyone in Jamaica affected by the recent hurricane and the devastation it has caused. Lives have been lost and communities destroyed. Our hearts go out to all those impacted.
With so many people in the FBU connected to the Caribbean, we know how difficult this moment is. Please know that the FBU stands with you.
The FBU will continue to work with the B&EMM section to understand how we can best support those affected.
