The Fire Brigades Union (FBU) today paid tribute to firefighters who were injured or killed on the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
Almost 3000 people were killed including 343 firefighters and 67 Britons during the attacks in New York.
FBU general secretary Steve Wright will be attending a memorial event at his local fire station.
He said: "Today is a moment to remember all those who lost their lives and particularly the role of firefighters who performed their duties with bravery and professionalism under the most unimaginable circumstances 25 years ago in New York.
"We pay tribute to our brothers and sisters in the International Association of Firefighters (IAAF) and there is not a firefighter in the UK who will not be thinking of colleagues in the United States today."
