The leader of the Fire Brigades Union has called for the government to "get round the table" with the BMA, in a message of support for resident doctors due to begin a strike over pay this Friday.
Steve Wright, Fire Brigades Union general secretary said:
The Fire Brigades Union stands in solidarity with all resident doctors on strike this week. Like firefighters, they deliver a vital public service and deserve to be paid a fair wage.
While the NHS has been brought to its knees by austerity, resident doctors have kept it running. Meanwhile the decisions of successive governments have dramatically eroded their pay over the past ten years.
Labour must get round the table with the BMA, and move forwards by restoring residents doctor’s pay.”
