General Secretary Election: Bro Steve Wright Confirmed as General Secretary
All Members Circular 2025HOC0057BS reported that following the Fire Brigades Union’s (FBU) declaration of the General Secretary election outcome on 14 January 2025, it had come to our attention that an accidental omission had occurred which meant some members had not received a ballot paper.
The FBU’s Executive Council sought urgent legal advice and the matter was referred to the Certification Officer’s attention to invite her to exercise her powers under sections 55(1)(b) and 55(5A) TULRCA to issue a declaration of non-compliance in regard to those statutory provisions. The Certification Officer exercised her powers and the election, from the ballot stage where the omission occurred, was to be re-run. As part of that process both candidates were written to asking would they wish to stand in a re-run election. Bro Wright confirmed he would, and Bro Wrack declined.
Therefore, Bro Wright is confirmed as General Secretary.
This matter is now concluded.
