Dear Brother/Sister,
New Edition: (2025) National Risk Register
The National Risk Register (NRR) is a very important document which impacts across the UK Fire
& Rescue Service. It was first launched in 2008 as part of the National Security Strategy and aligns
with the Civil Contingencies Act, guiding emergency planning for Category 1 responders and local
authorities.
It has since seen several updates, with editions released in 2010, 2012, 2020, 2023, and now 2025.
On 16 January 2025, HM Government published the latest edition of the National Risk Register,
which can be accessed here: National Risk Register 2025.
In the coming weeks, the Executive Council and head office will discuss the implications of this new
register and the support available to fire and rescue services to prepare for both direct and indirect
challenges arising from the 185 identified risks, applicable across the UK. We will also advise local
officials on key considerations for fire and rescue services.
Members can be reassured that updates on our efforts will be distributed through the usual
communication channels.
Yours in solidarity,
Steve Wright
General Secretary
