Firefighters Memorial Day – Thursday 4th May 2023
Firefighters Memorial Day is on Thursday 4th May and is a day of international solidarity and remembrance for all firefighters and fire and rescue service workers across the world. We are once again calling for a visible act of remembrance for the bravery and sacrifice of all firefighters who have died in the line of duty, including over 2,300 UK firefighters who have lost their lives whilst serving their communities.
Therefore, in the tradition of past years, we are asking for a minute’s silence to be undertaken as a public display of commemoration and solidarity outside of fire stations and other Fire and Rescue Service workplaces. The minute's silence should begin at 12 midday and, as has now become custom, should be called and ended by the sounding of appliance sirens or other appropriate means.
Members who are off duty should also be encouraged to attend and I urge you to contact as many retired and out of trade members as possible to join you for the occasion.
