The Fire Brigades Union has won another significant legal victory for retained firefighters and you can read all about it in the latest edition of Alerter magazine. Fire Authority's must now treat all elements of pay that make up a retained firefighter's salary as pensionable. This include the disturbance fee, work activity and training payments. Not just the annual retainer fee as some fire authority's had been doing - a practice that potentially cheated FBU members out of thousands of pounds in pension contributions.
