Support and family law

Conference recognises our Union supports and defends its Members’ employment rights through our representatives and legal services. Support for our Members in matters relating to family law should be integral to the Fire Brigades Union.

Many of our Members are facing difficulty and expense navigating issues involving family law. Separation and child arrangement orders being particularly challenging and likely to have an effect on work. Advice, financial support, negotiated discounts, mentoring and partnerships with other organisations are examples of support that should be considered.

Conference instructs the Executive Council to explore ways in which we could provide additional support for our Members when faced with dealing with the complexity of family law and report back to Members at Conference in 2023.
