Judges don't run our union

Conference notes that trade unions in the UK are subject to some of the worst anti-union legislation in Europe. These include provisions for courts to interfere in the business and decision making of trade unions.

Conference notes that the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) has seen such interference by the courts in our democratic structures, including a decision by an Employment Tribunal that a policy of the Union was redundant. Such a decision can only be made by the FBU and its Members through our own democratic structures.

Conference reminds all Members and Officials of the Union of the provisions of Rule C2 that:

‘The supreme government of the Union shall be vested in the Conference...’

No individual Member or Official has the authority to determine, overturn or end policies of the Union except through the democratic structures of the Union and ultimately through Conference.
