Emergency resolution: Havana explosion

Conference notes the disaster at The Hotel Saratoga, a hotel in Old Havana, Cuba. The hotel was preparing to reopen after being closed for two years when an apparent gas leak ignited and blew the outer walls into the streets below.

In the last 24 hours the fatalities have risen to 40 and conditions are significantly deteriorating for workers on scene since the initial explosion. This is an ongoing and developing situation for firefighters and all those affected.

Conference applauds the work of firefighters working on the scene and salute the actions of those people who sought to help those injured.

Conference is dismayed to learn that the death toll currently stands at 40 people and many people have been seriously injured.

Conference sends its deepest condolences to the families of the dead and injured and also sends our solidarity to firefighters, other public service workers and firefighters in the UK stand with you.

The working class is international and in solidarity Conference calls on the Executive Council to explore if assistance is possible to offer via the firefighters 100 lottery.
