Conference recognises firefighters and firefighters Control spend vast amounts of time training to be competent in role. Whilst this takes place they are at financial disadvantage compared to competent firefighters to the sum of approximately £7,000 following the 2021 pay settlement. With the ongoing social financial issues, the impact of the difference in pay hits Members hard.
Rule B2(1)(viii) states;
‘The weekly contribution of Ordinary members shall be: Full-time members who are competent firefighters or whose weekly rate of pay is equal to or above that of a competent firefighter shall contribute 1 percent of the Firefighter (competent) weekly rate of pay. Job share members who are competent firefighters or whose full-time weekly rate of pay is equal to or above that of a competent firefighter shall pay half of 1 percent of the Firefighter (competent) weekly rate of pay. Retained members shall contribute one third of the trade contribution of full-time members, plus 3 percent of the trade contribution of full-time members rounded to the nearest penny. Volunteer members shall contribute annually a flat rate fee as set by the Executive Council.
Where members pay by the calendar month the contribution amount payable shall be calculated from the weekly contribution rates.
Where members are paid less than the Firefighter (competent) weekly rate of pay the Executive Council shall publish each year the relevant contribution rates for each pay band’.
As this is already an agreed rule Conference demands that the rule is applied to affected Members. This will include firefighters in development and firefighters Control in development
