Cost of living crisis

Conference notes with concern the escalating crisis in the cost of living.

Conference notes that inflation is set to soar to its sharpest increase in decades alongside huge increases in the cost of energy. At the same time, workers are being hit by a National Insurance hike leaving some paying hundreds of pounds more each year.

Conference also notes the impact this will have on Fire Brigades Union Members which added to a decade of below inflation pay rises will be catastrophic.

Conference recognises that the root of this crisis lies in the hands of the global political elite and billionaires who continue to drive a neo-liberal agenda exploiting and squeezing all workers across the globe in a never-ending pursuit of profit.

Conference also recognises that successive governments here in the UK have assisted and been complicit in driving down the living standards of firefighters.

Conference believes that without a united approach by all workers, reversing this sustained attack and increasing the standards of living of firefighters, including fair pay rises, will be impossible.

Conference instructs the Executive Council to develop a campaign and education programme with this in mind which will include approaching and encouraging other unions to join us in organising on pay and living standards for all workers, including the option of joined up industrial action on the issue.
