Policy text
Conference believes that solidarity is at the heart of building a strong Union and a strong trade union movement. Solidarity should be built into all activities of the Fire Brigades Union (FBU). This should include building links with other workers and other trade unions, and this should be done at branch, brigade, regional, national, and international level.
All branches and all committees of the FBU are urged to build solidarity into all activities and meetings. It should be on the standard agenda of every committee of the FBU.
Building solidarity should include;
- building links with local branches of sister unions
- affiliating to local trades councils
- building solidarity with local strikes
- workplace collections for striking workers
- organising FBU delegations to picket lines.
Conference instructs the Executive Council, in order to build that solidarity, to increase the notification to Members of strikes and disputes and to utilise resources such as ‘Strike Map’ to assist with this.
