Firefighter Deaths

Conference is appalled at the recent tragic deaths of Firefighters in Warwickshire, East Sussex, Hertfordshire, Central Scotland and London. Conference also commends all the work that has been carried out by Fire Brigades Union Officials in the accident investigation process; however Conference is also aware of the burden this places on the individual Brigade Officials. Therefore Conference calls upon the Executive Council to; ● Work with all interested parties to create a protocol for fatal/serious accident investigations; ● Create a team within the Fire Brigades Union that can be called upon to implement the agreed Fire Brigades Union process for fatal/serious accident investigations to support those local Officials during the initial stages of the investigation; ● To instruct the Regional Health and Safety Sub-Committee to create a report with recommendations to the Executive Council. This will be brought to Conference no later than 2009.
