Policy text
Conference is disgusted and appalled at the photos depicting Iraqi POWs being tortured and humiliated in Abu Ghraib prison, Baghdad.
The promise that Bush and Blair made to the Iraqis, of liberation and freedom, has turned sour within weeks of the invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq.
Conference notes that 10,000 Iraqi civilians were killed during the war and thousands have been killed since the 'end of hostilities' on May 1st, 2003
The recent siege of Fallujah demonstrates that far from 'liberating' Iraq, the war was always about the seizure of Iraq's wealth, mainly its vast reserves of oil.
It is now clear that the occupation has been a disaster. Conference supports:
(a) The Stop the War Coalition's appeal for medical aid to Iraq
(b) Free and immediate elections in Iraq
(c) The withdrawal of all troops from Iraq
(d) The regional demonstrations organised by Stop the
War Coalition, CND and the Muslim Association of Britain to oppose the fraudulent hand over of sovereignty on June 30th
(e) Furthermore, in light of the above, Conference agrees to donate £2000 to Stop the War Coalition to help in the organisation and implementation of all of the above,
