Disability Discrimination

This Conference is aware that in October 2004 the Disability Discrimination Act will apply to operational firefighters. This will have an impact on many aspects of Fire Service life, including absence control procedures, ill health retirements under the Firefighters' Pension Scheme and firefighter selection criteria. This will be a new era for the Fire Service and the Fire Brigades Union We demand that the Fire Brigades Union nationally, carry out a study to determine what impact this act will have on current policies and issue guidance on those effects to local Officials.
