National School is unlike any other event in the FBU education calendar.
Every year in November representatives of every region and section come to Wortley Hall near Sheffield to learn and work together, exchange ideas and opinions, and explore and discuss the very biggest questions and the smallest details of our working and political lives.
The programme covers every aspect of the trade union and labour movement as well as current FBU campaigns. There will be guest speakers and other contributors, who will contextualise participants’ own experiences, enrich their perspectives, and challenge their views. There will also be debates, tasks, activities, and likely a quiz. The programme is varied and intense for four days and there is an expectation of full participation throughout.
If you are a new official and you’re interested in the broadest industrial and political debates and actions that the union is involved in then this event might be for you. You can’t apply for a place but each region and section is invited to nominate suitable participants, so please express your interest to your RELO or section/brigade official. You can also speak to someone who attended in a previous year to find out more.
