On 19 July 2022 the Executive Council informed the national employers that their pay proposal had been rejected by firefighters.
The Executive Council is angered not to have received any improved proposal from the Employers side.
On that basis, the necessary work to prepare for a ballot for national strike action will continue.
The timescales involved for this ballot will be determined by:
- The requirements of the anti-trade union legislation in place;
- The tactical and strategic considerations to ensure the strike action has maximum effect.
The Executive Council want the direction of travel to be clear to the National Employers and the Government.
The FBU remain committed to negotiate a fair pay settlement to achieve pay justice for all firefighters irrespective of workplace, duty system or role/rank. To this end we urge the national employers to make a revised and improved proposal which is not an insult to the members of this dedicated and professional workforce
Branch meetings have already been held right across the union. These meetings will continue to take place and all members are urged to attend to consider the issues and to ensure their voices are being heard.
