The Westminster government has today announced increases in firefighter pension contributions for April 2012 to March 2013. These are set out incircular [186MW]. The FBU has always stated our opposition to any contribution increases and has submitted substantial evidence to support our position.
The increases are half what the government originally planned to impose. Any increase is an unwelcome step at a time of a pay freeze and high rates of inflation. The FBU’s Executive Council will now consider the implications of these increases alongside the other developments in our pension campaign.
