Many firefighters are asking about the “protection” offered in the government’s “Heads of Agreement” document, published on 9 February 2012. The tables for individuals in the “tapered protection” are on pages 5-8 of the offer, on the CLG website.
Please note that talks are continuing with government around the overall pension attacks and within these we are still raising issues around this protection as we still believe:
• It is inadequate
• It is unfair
• It does not show the cost to members.
The FBU believes that as the costs become clearer we will find that members are paying for their own protection. To date the full future contribution costs are not known, but as we get more clarity on this and a range of issues we will issue further advice.
