This one-day education event will explore the workings of the Westminster parliament, how law is made, and the role of trade unions in influencing that process.
- Trade unions and politics - how do trade unions make change? what are the limits of Westminster? how do we build power and campaigns that win? what is the difference between national and local campaigns?
- How does parliament work? find out more about the role of committees, both legislative Houses, and the processes for effective lobbying during lawmaking
The programme will include a workshop session with a current MP to look at how trade unions can maximise influence in the political process, the tips and tricks we should know, the role of the FBU parliamentary group, and the support available to help with engagement in these processes.
There will also be a tour of parliament which will provide a historical overview of parliament including key places/figures and link to earlier discussions on the nature of lawmaking.
