This is a progression course for safety reps who have already undertaken the FBU health, safety and welfare education pathway.
This three-day course has been reworked and rewritten following the review of the FBU guidance for safety representatives and officials who would, should the need arise, have to deal with the aftermath of a serious safety event.
The course will expose participants to a range of techniques for responding to and analysing such events as well as effectively managing evidence, interviewing witnesses, and drafting recommendations and reports. It will explain the relevant guidance and legal entitlements, and explore the responsibilities and tensions that can emerge for trade union officials in such situations.

This course is suitable for regional health and safety officials who would be called upon to conduct a serious accident investigation on behalf of the union. Brigade/area health and safety officials will also benefit from the course if the region deems that they also may be required to undertake the same responsibility
The Serious Accident Investigation course is a progression course for safety reps who have already undertaken the FBU health, safety and welfare education pathway, including specifically the Health, Safety and Welfare at Work – Accident Investigation course, or have completed significant TUC health and safety education.
