What happens when something goes wrong at work? And is that different to what should happen?
Accidents and incidents happen every day in the fire and rescue service and our people are hurt or nearly hurt on a regular basis. Can we do more to ensure that when an accident occurs, then the necessary inspection, learning and follow-up action takes place? This course will explore safety reps’ rights and crucially management responsibilities after there has been an accident at work.
There will be also be an opportunity to consider the safety rep’s role when a member has long-term ill-health caused by work, and how to make skilful use of body-mapping in standing up for members.
This three-day course is accredited learning on the FBU health, safety and welfare education pathway. Health, Safety and Welfare Accident Investigation provides the essential learning and skills required before undertaking the specific Serious Accident Investigation course.

Branch, brigade or regional safety reps who have already completed the Introduction to Health, Safety and Welfare course or who have significant experience in role.
These three-day courses are recognised learning on the FBU health, safety and welfare education pathway and are externally accredited through the National Open College Network. Time off for elected safety reps to attend is a legal right under Regulation 4(2)(b) of the Safety Representatives and Safety Committees Regulations 1977.
