As far right parties sweep to power around the world and far right narratives enter the mainstream, the global labour movement must mount an effective response.
The attacks on the rights to organise and protest, on gender identity and reproductive rights, on racial justice, internationalism and intellectual freedom, accompanied by the increase in hate speech, the creation of hostile environments and the incitement to violence all mean that no section of the working class can ignore this.
This course will be delivered in partnership with Trademark Belfast, the social justice anti-sectarian organisation. The course outlines the nature, tactics, and origins of the contemporary far right and explores the historical, political, and economic changes that have shaped our present moment. It proposes a trade union response based on solidarity and progressive economic change that can be shared widely following the event.
Participants will identify the history and resurgence of racism, fascism and far right movements, consider how the far right exploits economic and social crises to deceive and weaponise people, and develop strategies for challenging the far-right in the workplace, in communities and online.
