This three-day course is designed for brigade and regional officials to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence in planning, preparing and taking part in negotiations with managers and other employer representatives.
Participants will contextualise their role and responsibilities in relation to negotiations with the employer about matters which fall within section 178(2) of the Trade Union Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 and other legislation, formulating a comprehensive understanding of collective bargaining. You will consider what is involved in ‘leverage’ and how it might be applied. You will be able to develop and promote a workplace organising approach to trade union duties which underpins successful negotiation.
The course offers the opportunity to analyse and evaluate a range of negotiating and bargaining styles and behaviours. You will have the chance to improve your practical skills including planning and preparing for effective participation in negotiations, so that you can approach negotiations more confidently and better represent FBU members.
