Dear Brother/Sister
Bro Barry Martin
Bro Barry Martin died on Friday 27 January following injuries he sustained at the Jenners fire in Edinburgh on Monday 23 January. Barry was a firefighter with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and a member of the Fire Brigades Union. He was based at McDonald Road fire station. His death has shocked and saddened FBU members across the UK.
Today at 11am, there will be a one minute silence in memory of Barry. We hope firefighters across the UK will join.
I would like to invite you to join this one minute silence to pay your respects. If you’re on duty, we ask that you consider standing outside your station, control or other venue with on duty crews. If you’re at home or working elsewhere, take a moment out of your day to hold Barry and his loved ones in your thoughts.
Barry’s death is a sombre reminder of the risks firefighters may have to face every working day. Like so many before, he put himself at risk to protect the safety of others. His bravery and sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we are proud that he was a member of our profession and of our union.
Yours in unity
Matt Wrack
General Secretary
