Fire Brigades Union Notification of Ballot Results
As you will be aware we have conducted three separate ballots in relation to on-going disputes with respect to the issue of pay. They are as follows:
- England, Scotland and Wales (an aggregated ballot)
- Northern Ireland
- North West Fire Control Ltd
In accordance with our statutory obligations we set out the results of those ballots below:
ENGLAND, SCOTLAND AND WALES
In accordance with Section 231 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 the Fire Brigades Union is required to release the result of any ballot as soon as reasonably practicable after the ballot closes and the result is received from the independent scrutineer. This is a strict requirement.
An aggregated ballot commenced on 5 December 2022 and closed at 2pm on 30 January 2023.
The ballot result was as follows:
The number of individuals entitled to vote was 31462
The number of votes cast in the ballot was 23046
The number of individuals answering “yes” to the question was 20214
The number of individuals answering “no” to the question was 2796
The number of spoiled or otherwise invalid voting papers returned was 36
The percentage of those voting who voted YES is 88%
I therefore confirm the number of votes cast in the ballot was at least 50% of the number of individuals entitled to vote in the ballot.
I further confirm the number of individuals answering “Yes” to the question is at least 40% of the number of individuals who were entitled to vote in the ballot.
NORTHERN IRELAND
In accordance with Article 112 of the Trade Union and Labour Relatios (Northern Ireland) Order 1995 the Fire Brigades Union is required to release the result of any ballot as soon as reasonably practicable after the ballot closes and the result is received from the independent scrutineer. This is a strict requirement.
The ballot commenced on 5 December 2022 and closed at 2pm on 30 January 2023.
The ballot result was as follows:
The number of individuals entitled to vote was 1541
The number of votes cast in the ballot was 1052
The number of individuals answering “yes” to the question was 984
The number of individuals answering “no” to the question was 67
The number of spoiled or otherwise invalid voting papers returned was 1
The percentage of those voting who voted YES is 94%
NORTH WEST FIRE CONTROL LTD
In accordance with Section 231 of the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 the Fire Brigades Union is required to release the result of any ballot as soon as reasonably practicable after the ballot closes and the result is received from the independent scrutineer. This is a strict requirement.
The ballot commenced on 5 December 2022 and closed at 2pm on 30 January 2023.
The ballot result was as follows:
The number of individuals entitled to vote was 39
The number of votes cast in the ballot was 25
The number of individuals answering “yes” to the question was 20
The number of individuals answering “no” to the question was 5
The number of spoiled or otherwise invalid voting papers returned was 0
The percentage of those voting who voted YES is 80%
I therefore confirm the number of votes cast in the ballot was at least 50% of the number of individuals entitled to vote in the ballot.
I further confirm the number of individuals answering “Yes” to the question is at least 40% of the number of individuals who were entitled to vote in the ballot.
The Executive Council are currently meeting to discuss the ballot result. A further circular will be issued shortly detailing the result of those discussions.
