Dear Brother/Sister

Pay Rally and Lobby of Parliament

As you will now be aware, the consultative ballot of FBU members returned a decisive rejection of the employers’ 5% pay proposal.

A timetable for a ballot for strike action has now been set out with the intention to commence a postal ballot of members on 5 December.

The Executive Council, as part of this campaign, has decided to call a pay rally and lobby of parliament on 6 December.

Pay Rally – Methodist Hall

A rally will be held in Westminster Methodist Central Hall, Storeys Gate, London SW1H 9NH on 6 December starting at 12pm. It shall aim to conclude at 1pm when members and officials will walk to parliament to lobby MPs. We are encouraging members to attend in tunics where possible.

Lobby of Parliament

Immediately following the rally members and officials will Lobby MPs to:

  • Fund the fire and rescue service to support Fair Pay for firefighters.
  • End the cuts to the fire and rescue service.
  • Invest in the front line.

Members are asked to:

  • Phone or Email your MP’s constituency office in advance explaining that you will be at Westminster on Tuesday 6 December and would like to meet after 1pm.
  • Ask for confirmation of the appointment.
  • Bring the confirmation with you on the day.
  • Confirm your attendance with Brigade/Regional officials to arrange travel/attendance.

If you are unsure please contact your local officials to assist with the above.

Further circulars, briefing packs and resources to assist members and officials lobby MPs on the day will be provided in due course, but please start arranging your meetings now, your local officials can assist you with this.

This is a vital stage of our pay campaign. We are now preparing for a yes vote in a strike ballot, a large and visible attendance at the rally/lobby will be vital in achieving our aims in our campaign for fair pay.

Please do all you can to attend on the day.

Yours in unity.

Matt Wrack
General Secretary
