National Officer

At the end of this month FBU national officer, Sean Starbuck will be departing the FBU. The Executive Council thanks him for his contribution to the union and wishes him well for the future.

The position in relation to national officers is currently somewhat complex as a result of previous decisions made over a number of years. A report was presented to our last physical conference in 2019 reporting on a continuing review of the arrangements for national officers. Conference had previously instructed the Executive Council to create the position of appointed national officer and this was done. After the end of the month there will be three national officers in post.

The Executive Council this week agreed the need to review all aspects of this position so as to ensure fair treatment of all concerned, full consideration of the rules and decisions of conference and the need to take account of workload demands created by challenges to the union industrially. The Executive Council will report back through the union’s structures on these issues at the earliest opportunity.
